The Potter’s House Community Development Empowering Center, Inc. (TPHCDEC) is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Bishop Vaughn and Lady Narlene McLaughlin in 2004. The purpose of TPHCDEC is to educate and empower individuals to improve their quality of life. Our mission is to aid, educate, and mentor disadvantaged individuals and families and point them towards a life of self-sufficiency.          

 

The goals of TPHCDEC are to:

 

* Expand educational, employment, and other economic empowerment opportunities for residents of the local and surrounding communities

* Preserve the heritage of the community and its residents

* Aid, service, and develop people to reach their fullest potential by providing social services and promoting educational success

* Promote positive redevelopment of families, youth, and the elderly within our community

* Provide services and programs that will encourage and enhance the livelihood of individuals and families

* Establish, assist with, and provide affordable housing opportunities to individuals and families with low to moderate incomes.

Kingdom Plaza

 

Kingdom Plaza is the premier entertainment and community empowerment facility on the Westside of Jacksonville.  Formerly Normandy Mall, Kingdom Plaza is a coming together of retail merchants and community-centered businesses.  Now in its eleventh year, the mall offers family entertainment, fine Southern cuisine, and personal growth resources.  Supported by The Potter’s House Community Development Empowering Center (TPHCDEC), our purpose is to aid, educate, and mentor disadvantaged individuals and families and point them towards a life of self-sufficiency.  Through TPHCDEC’s businesses and other mall tenants, we empower people with employment opportunities while also providing goods and services to our community.

 

 King Pins Bowling Center

 

The King Pins Bowling Center at Kingdom Plaza opened its doors in 2007.  Our goal is to serve the city of Jacksonville by providing a safe and exciting environment where you can be entertained and enjoy a great time.  When God gave Bishop Vaughn and Lady Narlene McLaughlin the vision for Kingdom Plaza Mall, they prayed about how to best use part of the property to provide wholesome entertainment for families.  A movie theater and an amphitheater are a couple of the ideas that were on the table.  While considering the options, Lady Narlene remembered a bowling alley in her hometown of Memphis, TN that was a safe-haven for herself and other teenagers as she was growing up.  They stayed off the street and out of trouble by spending their time bowling.  From this fond memory, the vision for King Pins Bowling Center was born.

 

King Pins Bowling Center is open to the community and targets unchurched youth and adults.  The center is available for youth group lock-ins, birthday parties, rallies and celebrations.  The center has twenty professional regulation lanes and large screen televisions plus arcade games.  There is something for everyone at King Pins!

 

Youth groups, schools, and other non-profit organizations can book special events at King Pins. Bowling leagues and social groups can meet here for competitive play.  There is even a pro shop that has the latest in bowling balls, shoes, and apparel.

 

 

The Potter’s House Soul Food Bistro

 

The Potter’s House Soul Food Bistro was birthed out of a vision given by God to Vaughn and Narlene McLaughlin.  After their conversion to Christianity in 1982 they would frequent local restaurants after attending evening church services throughout the week.  Most restaurants were laden with smoke and the sale and use of alcoholic beverages.  They both expressed a desire to one day own a restaurant that offered good food in a pleasant, family environment.

 

The Bistro initially began as The Potter’s House Café, a small sandwich shop located within the Potter’s House Multiplex, a business incubation center owned by the ministry and located on Normandy Blvd.  The café was an instant success and began to grow exponentially.  After two expansions within the Multiplex, the ministry then purchased the former Normandy Mall located on Jacksonville’s west side, changed the name of the restaurant to the Soul Food Bistro and greatly expanded the menu to include an array of good Southern style home cooking.   Bishop McLaughlin’s vision for the restaurant is to continue to stay committed to being obedient to God by impacting the community and the world through the Bistro’s good food and excellent service.  The Bistro provides job opportunities to those who otherwise would be considered “unemployable”, and assist them in becoming all that they were created to become.  The restaurant also offers substantial meal discounts for senior citizens, catering discounts for non-profits, internships for culinary students and a host of employee benefits such as free fitness center membership, educational discounts and reimbursements, health insurance benefits, and more.

Temple Builders

 

It is God’s perfect will that all believers prosper and be in good health even as their souls prosper and are strengthened by the Word in spiritual things. Operating as an extension of and in conjunction with TPHIM Healthcare Ministry, Temple Builders purposes to stimulate, motivate and educate believers and nonbelievers concerning proper care of their physical bodies and to foster disciplined and healthy lifestyles. The fitness center also serves as a platform for proper stewardship in bringing clarity and balance to the Body of Christ regarding care and maintenance of the entire body; physical, spiritual and emotional.
